STAR is Born
By: Michael De Filippis
Growing up as an Italian in New Jersey, I was use to the amazing pastas that came from Star Ravioli. As the factory grew so did my craving for its Italian specialties.

In the year of 1946, a young man by the name of Laurence Eugene Piretra had an image to develop a factory that processed and shipped homemade raviolis. He used only the best and freshest ingredient to ensure quality in his products. With his dream in mind, Star Ravioli was born. Piretra began the business in Union City, New Jersey. There the operation started off small, as Laurence sold to the local people of the area. The people there loved his meat and cheese raviolis, stuffed shells, manicotti, and tortellini. By taste of mouth, the news of this amazing pasta business spread like marinara over a child’s face. By the late 1950’s Piretra’s dream was vast, as restaurants and retailers purchased their pastas from Star Ravioli. As the company grew Laurence needed help, so his two sons; Larry and Dennis were kneaded into the family business. The company was becoming larger and in 1964 it was moved to Moonachie, New Jersey. Laurence’s vision continued to grow over the last forty-six years. Now his grandchildren, Michael and Eileen share his goal of making quality pastas for people to enjoy. The products offer by Star Ravioli has also expanded. Now the business offers a wide range of Italian specialties that included such as; gnocchi, cavatelli, fettuccini, thirty kinds of raviolis and many more, in addition to the original products that made Star Ravioli a family favorite.

  1. Short and sweet. I like the visuals like the marinara sauce on a child's face. :) You made this warm and welcoming even though it is about the history of a company.

Good job! I think you should pick your favorite pasta and elaborate on why you like it so much particularly from this company. Tell your audience what makes this type of pasta from Star Ravioli so special and memorable.

Can't wait to see the final draft!
