My Firts Bite- Luis Ramirez

The best experience that I had was six years ago back then when I use to live in Canovanas, Puerto Rica. At the northeast of the island, were the lands are filling with mountains and palm trees with a clear blue sky. Were the heart and soul of Paso Fino it is enjoy at the raising horse track El Comandante. My best friend Jun said:”Hey Luis what are you doing after school?” I responded:”not much, why?” he then decide to invite me to eat dinner at the restaurant, were his mom work called Yin Yang’s Restaurant in Santurces City, the place to party until the sunrise. I asked him “what kind of food is it?” and he said “you will find out”. At the moment I was not too excited with the idea of not knowing, yet he started explaining on how the Chef has won many awards for his style of cooking and that restaurant won the fork of bronze for its food of excellence. On the way to the restaurant the night got colder with laud winds. Once at the place it was in the corner of a big building. The parking had a narrow entrance to go in yet the people that worked at the valley parking were really nice. Walking in to the restaurant I notice that Jun said something in Japanese to the chef who was working at the raw bar wild bowing his head down. At the table of the small restaurant I notice that in the walls around had frame of historical paces and paints. Jun soon he said: “In Puerto Rico there are only 150 Japanese restaurants and from all of them they got the bronze fork.”

I have to say I did not even look at the menu and I told Jun “I trust you”. For the moment of ordering I notice he went a mad crazy because I heard like 20 different thing he asked for us to eat. Once the server brought the food it was a big round platter with different type of sushi and sashimi. There were both type cook and raw. I have to save I was impress also because on the way that the chef combined his traditional cooking with the puertorican. I remember asking what the funny green looking ball was and he said to me that it was guacamole. Bad idea to had put it in my mouth, because after that I learn that it was wasabi. I remember having the jibarito roll which it had tuna, avocado, fried sweet plantain, rice and vegetable. That one was my favorite and the dessert even dough we were so full with all the food I could not resist myself from a hot dip fried tempura cheese cake with tropical fruits.

I have to say my first impression on raw fish after I tasted it change my mind completely. I guess it was because of the different types of rolls that I was able to taste whether they were cooked or raw. I even toll Jun at the end of our dinner that was the best in years and after that night I love sushi.
